Comments: Dealing with the Downs and Outs of Depression

Excellent strategies to cope with depression. Thank you! I have suffered multiple depressions over the years, and medication doesn't seem to work with me. I find time is an important factor in diminishing depressive moods. And also of course focusing on the outside world, shifting one's attention from self to other...Which is very difficult to do during a depression...

These articles are very insightful. I have found that vitamins B-6 and B-12 do elevate my energy level and help me to look beyond my sad mood to other things.

Chronic depression is a much more serious disorder than the intermittent variety. I have been on an anti-depression med for several years, and can definitely tell a difference when I stop taking it. Having said that, I also know that the medication alone does not solve the problem of dealing with the feelings and habits one acquires during long term depression. I have also been in therapy to learn to recognize and manage the related aspects. I am learning to embrace my personal way of being in this world, depression and all. The article above does make several good points about how we each must recognize our personal demons, be they in the form of depression or some other difficulty. Yes, I will strive to keep moving, and take my depression along for the journey, if it can keep up with me!

This article may help some who have temporary depression, but generally it ignores that depression is a disease just like diabetes or heart disease and must be treated as such. Only medication (prescription or other treatments). It's not solely a mental illness, but a physical one.

This article is extremely helpful and wise. I have used a lot of these strategies based on articles from your site and other wise books, but having all the details in one place is a good guide for everyday life...I have recommended your site to my friend recently and I know she will be influenced by this type of philosophy.

Very well written and well said!
Action through exercsie has helped me through many low points. Journaling has also worked.
I was attending al-anon meetings but found them too much a focus on "the take care of me-me-me" concept.I must focus outside myself and apreciate my blessings: family, friends, work, home and especially my son!

Thank you so much !
